Miami Heat rout Indiana Pacers, return to NBA Finals

5-30-dwyane-wade-vertical-game6
MIAMI — The Miami Heat embarrassed the Indiana Pacers.

But worse, the Pacers embarrassed themselves.

The Pacers came back to Miami for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals and were outplayed and overmatched in a contest that was decided before the first half ended.

The Heat hammered the Pacers 117-92 and advanced to the NBA Finals for the fourth consecutive time, becoming just the third franchise in NBA history to do that and the first team to accomplish that feat since the 1984-87 Boston Celtics, teams for which Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird played.

McFarlane Sports Picks - Today's Leader in Sports Figures

Jerome Bettis Sports Pick figure from McFarlane Toys - amazing detail for a 6-inch figure

McFarlane Sports Picks - Today's Leader in Sports Figures

McFarlane also works with many of the top entertainment properties in the industry and has the official rights to all four major North American sports (hockey, baseball, football and basketball). The company's Sports Picks figures (action figures depicting current and former professional athletes) are the most popular and actively collected sports figures on the market today; the database of Sports Picks on this site includes more than 1,400 different figures.

The hallmark of all McFarlane products, and Sports Picks in particular, is detail. Sports Picks are created with remarkable accuracy, including details like logo patches on the uniforms, specific shoes or gloves, tattoos, artwork on masks, etc. Even when scrutinized for small details such as the width of a stripe on a player's sock, Sports Picks are found to be accurate more than 95% of the time - a remarkable level of performance for 6" tall plastic figures that retail for $10.

Most Sports Picks action figures are six inches tall and released in series. McFarlane typically releases two to three regular series of figures of current players per sport per year. Additionally, McFarlane releases one to two series per year per sport of famous former players (these are called Legends or Cooperstown series). Within each of these series are chase and variant figures as well as the regular figures. (For more information about chase and variant figures, read the article What is the Difference Between a Chase and a Variant Action Figure?)

McFarlane also produces series of 3" figures for each sport and has issued some 12" figures. Outside of the normal retail releases, McFarlane creates exclusive figures that are sold only during events like Super Bowls, Hall of Fame Inductions and the NHL Hockey All-Star Game, or that are sold only through their website or their retail store in Arizona. On occasion, McFarlane has produced figures that were given away as promotional items at specific sporting events.

McFarlane Toys is the fifth largest action figure manufacturer in the United States. Established in 1994 to manufacture and sell action figures based on founder Todd McFarlane's comic book character Spawn, the international award-winning company has expanded into licensed products to become one of the premiere action figure producers on the planet.

Spawn is still the bedrock of the company -- McFarlane Toys released the 30th line of Spawn figures in 2006. Marquee toy lines include: Alien vs. Predator, Napoleon Dynamite (Twentieth Century Fox), Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, (Warner Bros.), Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Shrek (Dreamworks), and Lost (ABC Television).

Microsoft unveils 'Halo 5: Guardians,' out in 2015

halo5

Microsoft has finally revealed the first details of Master Chief's next adventure.

The Xbox One maker announced Halo 5: Guardians, the next chapter of its blockbuster action series, will launch in fall 2015.

Halo 5 picks up right after the events of Xbox 360 predecessor Halo 4, as franchise hero Master Chief copes with the loss of companion Cortana. "He's questioning many things that he firmly believed to be true," said Bonnie Ross, General Manager of studio 343 Industries. "His past, his purpose, who he was, what he was fighting for. For us, this is something we definitely pivoted on in thinking about how we wanted to tell his story going forward."

Perhaps the biggest change for Halo 5 is a new technology engine built from the ground up for Xbox One, adding much more "scope and scale" compared to previous Halo games, says Frank O'Connor, franchise director for Halo at 343 Industries. "Technologically, this is a big step forward."

AP_GOOGLE_GLASSES_NONPROFITS_63745792

SAN FRANCISCO — Google on Tuesday opened up sale of its wearable Glass device to anyone in the U.S. with $1,500 to spend.

Last month the company experimented with a brief sale of Glass, which apparently resulted in brisk sales.

The Explorer program was introduced in 2012 as a way to to get the unique wearable device into the hands of users.

Opening up sales is a way to increase feedback from purchasers "ahead of our wider consumer release," the company said in a post on its Google+ social network.

Marvel unveils squad-based, tactical 'Avengers' game

avengers alliance tactics

Marvel unveiled a new Avengers game for Facebook where players can lead their own squad of superheroes through a variety of missions.

Avengers Alliance Tactics will feature combat similar to the 2K hit XCOM: Enemy Unknown, as players put together squads featuring S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and superheroes such as Thor and Iron Man and lead them into battle.

"You get to recruit heroes and develop each of those characters individually," says T.Q. Jefferson, vice president of game production at Marvel.

The game's story starts with players traveling to the Savage Land to investigate a mysterious energy anomaly. Boasting a 3-D, top-down view of combat, players assume the role as S.H.I.E.L.D. commander, sending orders to agents and heroes.

Browns sign QB Vince Young to 1-year contract

2014-05-01-vince-young

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Vince Young doesn't take anything for granted. Not after the road he's been down.

Once of the NFL's rising stars before personal problems sidetracked the quarterback's career, Young signed a one-year contract on Thursday with the Cleveland Browns.

Although rusty, Young who hasn't played in a regular-season game since 2011, showed enough during a three-day tryout to get the deal.

It's been a long climb back for Young, who won't celebrate with so much work to be done.

"There's no popping the champagne bottle," he said.

Why we - and the X-Men films - need a break from Wolverine

I love Hugh Jackman. I really do. He's talented, funny and seems like an overall great guy. But this article isn't about him. It's about the fictional character that gave him his big break in Hollywood: Wolverine. Wolverine is one of many mutants that populate the X-Men franchise. He's been at the forefront of the film series for 14 years, with both group and solo outings. He's back again in this month's X-Men: Days of Future Past, where he'll once more lead the team into battle.

WEEPING PADME PREGGO TOY

padme-with-child-weeping.jpg

If there's one thing a kid wants from an action figure, it's ACTION! And nothing says ACTION like a weeping pregnant lady all swollen up and ready to drop her puppies. If you've ever had a little sister or brother arrive in your life, kids, then you know the excitement THIS action mom is in for, over six months of sleeplessness, bloating, crankiness and cracked nipples. To add to that level of thrill, collectors delight that this toy ties in to one of the three best prequels in the Star Wars saga.

BONUS ACTION POINTS: The doll inside the package has clearly become so depressed that she's cut off all her hair in a deranged moment of self-destruction. Now with Post-Partum Depression grip!

The 6 most awful comic-book toys and action figures EVER

We all love toys, because we're all kids inside, especially the unrepentant kids out there who love comics. (That gang is not-growing-up with an aggression that borders on psychosis.) But we don't love ALL toys, because all toys don't deserve it.

Some toys are just so bizarre, so wrongheaded, so unholy that Winslow Schott wouldn't even play with them drunk. If these toys came to life, we would run screaming from the room, looking for a gun.
